Candle facts
Soy wax candles verses Paraffin wax candles Whats the difference? Soy wax is natural, made from soybeans which is biodegradable, eco-friendly, and made from a renewable resource. Soy wax is non-toxic and does not produce the dangerous toxic soot that paraffin candles do. (Using lead and zinc free wicks also diminishes toxins) Paraffin is actually a petroleum by-product, a leftover residue of refined petroleum. Burning paraffin candles emits black soot and other harmful substances, including carcinogens and toxins. Soy wax supports American farmers - unlike paraffin, this promotes dependence on foreign oil products. Soy wax cleans up easily with soap and warm water. Soy wax burns at lower temperatures, which means your candle lasts longer than a paraffin candle. Soybean candles are a few dollars more than paraffin, but worth it for environment and health reasons. Be a supporter of US American made products! Soy Scent Creations uses Lead and Zinc free wicks. Is a soybean wax candle really 100% soybean? Read the truth about adding fo's and dyes to a soy candle.

Having any business makes you pay attention to details of what others are selling. Really small details. Like how a product is made, what goes into it, etc. Candles are no exception. There is so many different types of candle blends out on the market, it’s near impossible for every company to have the exact same candle.

Because of the recent discovery of the benefits to burning a soy candle, many have been seeking out natural or 100% soybean candles. Unfortunately, a TRUE soy candle isn’t all that easy to find. Most you find are blends, natural or not, and there are very few that are actually all natural like they claim to be. Because of this, I wanted to present a few facts about soy candles.

Fact 1 - Soy Candle does not mean all Natural.

If they say “all natural” and include fragrance oil, it’s not all natural. Fragrance oil is man-made. Unless it is made from Essential oils, the site is deceiving you. It may not seem like a big deal to you, and actually I don’t care if it has got fragrance oil. Having a highly scented candle is the best part. However, to state something that isn’t true bothers me.

Fact 2 - You can not make pillars from pure soy wax.

If you see a site that says 100% soybean and sells pillars, it is misleading. You can not make a pillar candle from pure soy wax - only blends. Maybe you don’t care if it is a blend or not, and that is fine. Again, it’s the dishonest part that bothers me the most. If they can not be honest about the candle’s true ingredients, what type of a business are they running?

Fact 3 - Not all soy wax is pure

Just like I mentioned about the pillar candles, not all sites that say “natural soy candles” are made with all soy. Check their ingredient or FAQ if they have one to find out what is really in the candles. Some mention it is made with botanical blends or “palm wax” - which isn’t soy. I don’t want to kind of support farmers, I want to fully support them with 100% soy wax.

Fact 4 - Soy Wax is more expensive. And the cost per pound keeps rising.

One thing to keep in mind when choosing a candle is that soy wax is more expensive. It is well worth the money, though. Most people know that soy candles burn slower and cleaner, making them completely worth the extra cost.

Now that you have some the facts, here is some information about Soy Scent Creations:

I start with 100% soybean wax flakes. I won’t lie to you - my candles are blended with highest quality fragrance oils. The rest is pure soy wax and not a blended wax.

I do not use dyes, (unless a customer requests a colored candle.) Otherwise, you won’t find any dyes or additives in my candles. Why? I don’t like dyes. They take away from the natural look of the candle, and dye has no real purpose other than making a mess. pure soy wax does not color well either, which is another way to tell a candle is make from a blend and not pure soy.

Don’t be fooled! The next time you choose a candle, be sure to really look around to make sure you know what you are getting. Dishonest advertising could be a sign to dishonest business practices!
